What does the course cover?
1. Introduction to Active Ageing

History and benefits of physical activity for older adults.

Current research on physical activity and health in older populations.

Understanding the effects of ageing on health and physiology.

Understanding the increasing risk of developing non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimers disease, Parkinson’s disease etc.

Considerations for participation in physical activity and exercise.

Principles and considerations of programme design for individuals and groups.

How much does it cost?
The fee for the Active Ageing specialist module is €1,195
What am I qualified to do?
The Active Ageing specialist module will give you the skills, knowledge and competencies to:

Design group exercise classes for dependent chair based and independent active older adults.

Prescribe progressive exercise programmes suitable for independent older adults of varying levels of fitness in a gym, leisure centre or community environment.

Functional fitness classes and programme design.
-
Enhance the activity levels of our active ageing population in a fun and safe manner.
Entry Requirements
When and where can I do this course?
All content, including lectures, handouts, sample assessments, videos etc. will be delivered and accessed through a specially developed e-learning hub. This will enable you to further your studies at home, abroad and anywhere you have access to an internet connection.
This e-learning hub will contain tutorials on all the theoretical aspects along with short electronic self-assessments which will allow students to gauge their progress as they work through the module.
Start dates are as follows:
Summer 2021: Commences Tuesday 4th May 2021, Finishes Mid-August 2021
Autumn 2021: Commences Monday 6th September 2021, Finishes Mid-December 2021
Spring 2022: Commences Monday 10th January 2022, Finishes Mid-April 2022
