All recipients of the National Certificate in Exercise & Fitness: Level 1 (awarded in 2006 and before) are required to recertify their qualification every five years by accumulating 1,000 Continuing Education Credits (CEC’S) for each five year period.

In order to recertify and bring your qualification up to date, you must submit the following to the NCEF Head Office:-

  • Copies of all health and fitness related certificates received since graduating with the NCEF. CEC’s are awarded for health and fitness related qualifications/workshops etc. obtained since graduating from the NCEF/PEAI Level 1 or since last date of recertification.

  • NCEF passport book with 1,000 Continuing Education Credits (CEC’s) for each five year period .

  • Copy of your current Occupational First Aid (OFA) certificate or PHECC First Responder certificate (150 CEC’s awarded) Basic First Aid or an AED certificate will not suffice. Contact your local Sports Partnership, the Irish Red Cross, Order of Malta or Denise Kelly on 086-8474444 for details on upcoming courses in your area.

  • Recertification fee €55.00

This fee is waived to current Fitness Professionals Ireland members and they also receive 200 CECS annually towards recertification.  The NCEF National Register of Exercise Professionals (NNR) was re-launched as Fitness Professionals Ireland in 2011.  FPI is a non-profit public register which recognises the qualifications and expertise of NCEF graduates.

If you wish to join FPI and gain 200 CECS towards your recertification, please phone the NCEF Head Office on 061-202829.   The annual membership fee is €45.00 and payment can be made by providing your visa/debit card details over the phone.

The NCEF became an academic affiliate of the University of Limerick in June 2006.  All NCEF programmes of study are now part of Certificate,  Higher Certificate Diploma and Degree programmes in Exercise & Health Fitness of the University of Limerick. These awards do NOT require recertification.

NCEF Level 1 holders currently due to recertify have a unique opportunity to upgrade their NCEF Level 1 to the University of Limerick accredited Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness (CEHF).  Due to requests from students, we have recently fully upgraded our CEHF Learning Support website in order to facilitate the operation of this programme through e-learning only. This will mean that you will no longer be required to travel to the University of Limerick for a contact weekend.
